The Clinton County Historical Society was established in 1969 with the purpose of preserving historical materials and information pertaining to Clinton County, Missouri.

In 1976, a residence known as the Riley-Carmack House was purchased to display the many things that have been donated through the years. This residence was built between 1886-1888 in the Eastlake style.

So happy and thankful to report that the Clinton County Historical Society received the 21st Century Grant from the Missouri State Genealogical Association on August 5th, 2023 at the State meeting in Columbia, Missouri. The funds will allow us to recreate Helen Russell’s obituary binders. They are currently in a private collection. These binders hold over 30,000 obits from Clinton County, Missouri from 1878-2015 that were indexed by Helen. They are available when visiting the Riley-Carmack Museum. “There are only two lasting bequests we can give our children – one is roots, and the other, wings.” -Hodding S. Carter
